OVERVIEWChâteau Montlandrie is a new project from Denis Durantou, “the obsessive perfectionist owner of l’Eglise Clinet” (Parker) located in the value-driven Côtes de Castillon appellation, and per Jeff Leve it “offers a lot of bang for the buck and is well worth seeking out”. You don’t have to do much seeking, as we’ve got a parcel of their 2015 effort for an outstanding price.

Many insiders point to Castillon as boasting perhaps the strongest quality/price ratio in all of Bordeaux. The appellation lies just across the border from Saint Emilion, and the hilly terroir produces serious wines at seriously accessible prices. Many of the right bank’s top producers know this, and Durantou is a prime example. Joining him are François Thienpont of Le Pin with his Goubau estate, Gerard Perse of Pavie with Clos Lunelles and Comte Von Niepperg with d’Aguilhe.

There’s also the vintage to consider. Galloni says that Montlandrie 2015 “shows just how appealing and delicious the wines of Castillon are this year.” He also points out that “Bordeaux enjoyed its strongest vintage in a number of years in 2015” and, “most importantly for the consumer, the sweet spot in 2015 is exactly the wines Bordeaux excels in; delicious pedigreed Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot-based red that offer superb quality and value”.
