|OVERVIEW||The Old Pulteney 2006 Vintage is the only expression to survive from Old Pulteney’s previous travel retail collection. It has been repackaged inline with the other two new expressions in their travel line-up.|
This small-batch whisky has been fully matured in hand-selected first fill American ex-bourbon oak casks which is sure to add its flavour intensity and sweetness.
The Old Pulteney 2006 Vintage is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered with naturally coloured
|TASTING NOTES||Nose: Some sweet coconut amongst the vanilla toffee and honey, a little apple & pear and a vibrant lemon citrus.|
Taste: A honey and vanilla sweetness laced with candied pears and delicious zesty orange and lemon, some icing sugared coconut joins the charge. A little late salted caramel and some lovely vibrant mouth coating oak spice.
Finish: Vanilla and barley sugared mildly drying oak lingers for an age before bowing out.
Comment: This is a whisky which has been retained in the travel retail range from the previous travel retail range and with good reason, it is a very enjoyable whisky and isn't that the point? I have seen this whisky slated by a couple of "malt-review 'ers'" on the internet and I have to say that I totally disagree with their opinion of it and I have to question whether they should be influencing any whisky drinkers purchases.
This is an outstanding example of a whisky of this age and the cask type used in its maturation and at £50 for a 1 litre bottle this is a fantastic buy when passing through the airport. Another one to watch for on your travels!
